Senior Services is dedicated to enhancing the quality of life for older adults by providing Countywide leadership, needs assessment, information exchange, networking and service advocacy. The division serves as an advocate for County citizens, 55 and over. The goals are to provide a social setting, a support network for older people trying to live independently and assistance in alleviating health problems. The primary programs are Information and Referral Services (Outreach) and the Neighbor Network Program. The Senior Services' Advisory Council (a volunteer citizen's group) provides community input.
In existence since 1992, the Seniors' Council of Douglas County is charged with the responsibility of serving as an advocate on issues that affect older adults and their families, as well as acting as the "senior voice" of the community to the Division of Senior Services and the Board of County Commissioners.
The Seniors' Council is comprised of Regular members, Associate members, and Honorary members. There are 20 Regular membership slots on the Council, 51 percent of which must be filled with individuals ages 50 and older. Currently, 16 of those slots are filled; 11 with members over age 50. Members come from throughout the County including Highlands Ranch, Parker, Castle Rock and Franktown. Members also represent a multitude of service discipline including Home Health, Mental Health, Real Estate, Veterans Services, Elder Law and more. The Council's ongoing role is to serve as the voice of older adults and to provide information to seniors and their families.
The mission of the Seniors' Council of Douglas County is to serve as a catalyst in the enhancement of the quality of life for citizens of Douglas County. To achieve this mission, the Council will:
- Listen to concerns of seniors and communicate those concerns to appropriate entities.
- Educate seniors, their families and the general public concerning issues important to older adults.
- Support the Senior Services Division staff by recommending, planning and evaluating programs that promote independent living, physical well-being and social contact for seniors.
- Demonstrate that seniors are actively involved members of local communities.
- Facilitate communications between senior groups and other entities.
The Seniors' Council of Douglas County normally meets the first Thursday
of each month in locations throughout the County. All meetings
are open to the public.

The mission of the Douglas County Senior Services Foundation is to understand the ever-changing needs of our senior community and to seek sources of funds in order to enhance the well being of the senior citizens of Douglas County and to work with other local resources to address immediate and emerging community needs.
