The Board of Douglas County Commissioners recognizes public servants in May

Did you know that when you renew your passport, play in a park, hike in an open space, or even get a marriage license – you’re interacting with Douglas County public servants?
To honor the law enforcement, military personnel, firefighters, snowplow drivers, park rangers and other public employees who keep our communities running, the Board of Douglas County Commissioners adopted a resolution at the April 23 Business Meeting recognizing:
Every day, we are served by public servants at the federal, state, county and city levels. Here, in Douglas County, our public servants help you get a marriage license or passport, register your vehicle, clear your roads of snow, keep your parks and open spaces beautiful for recreation, provide resources for those in need, and investigate crimes. They run your elections, help you renew your driver license, build new roads and bridges, inspect buildings, serve your schools as School Resource Officers, and keep your neighborhoods safe.
“We have so many employees who are dedicated day in and day out, expecting very little in return,” said Commissioner George Teal. “The least we can do is return a little recognition.”
“Our public servants dedicate their lives to making our community great,” said Commissioner Abe Laydon. “Whether it’s mitigating against wildfires, patrolling our community, maintaining our parks and open spaces, or even being available for a 4 a.m. call from someone considering suicide, we are so grateful for the employees we have serving our Douglas County community.”
“Being a public servant and seeing the great work our employees do that improves our quality of life is very satisfying,” said Commissioner Lora Thomas. “Thank you to everyone who works in public service.”
