Description:
The 19th Century corn reaping or cradle scythe consists of an arrangement of fingers attached by a light framework to the snath of a scythe. The scythe has the usual distinctive features of other corn reaping scythes from the era with a cradle rib apparatus attached near the heel of the blade which was used to gather the corn. The cardle attachment is feastened with an iron ring to the snead and blade. The scythe is constructed of wood with a metal blade and has four wooden spikes diminishing in size. Some of the original red paint remains. There is a probable rib repair.
