2025 summer roadwork is ahead. Please drive safely.

New interactive project map helps keep you informed, which helps keep everyone safe

When you roll up to a work zone, it’s natural to feel a little frustrated. No one likes unexpected delays. Annual spring and summer roadwork is underway in Douglas County, and we want everyone to be safe and informed.

Well-maintained roads are safer and last longer. Every year, Douglas County plans for maintenance on County streets, including residential roads and main thoroughfares. Crews refresh pavement markings, repair sidewalks and restore pavement. This work occurs during the warmer months of April through October due to temperature requirements for road materials.

This year, we are launching a new interactive map to help you identify the impacts where you live or on your commute. You can also find details on this year’s construction projects by visiting our Cone Zone webpage. If you live in Highlands Ranch, visit our webpage for information on neighborhood roadwork.

Sometimes, though, working in a construction zone can be a harrowing experience for our crews. Please help keep our workers safe. National Work Zone Awareness Week (NWZAW) will be observed April 21-25 with this year’s theme of “Respect the zone so we all get home.”

Statistics from the National Work Zone Safety Information Clearinghouse show there were 821 fatal crashes in work zones resulting in 891 deaths in 2022, the most recent dataset. In addition, 94 roadway workers were killed in work zones. These statistics remind us that lane closures, reduced speed limits and alternate routes are in place for their safety, as well as yours. Slow down. Drop the distraction.

We’re committed to helping reduce surprise delays. There are several ways to know what’s planned, so you can plan a little extra time:

A safe and accessible multimodal transportation network is one of the Board of County Commissioner’s six core priorities. Read more about the County’s transportation initiatives online.
