Individuals experiencing life without shelter is on the rise all over Colorado and Douglas County is not immune.
One contributing factor to this issue in Douglas County is the lack of transportation for those being released from our County jail.
With no shelters in Castle Rock and limited public transportation, released inmates are without transportation options to reach the next destination of their choice.
Personnel from the Douglas County Department of Human Services, the Douglas County Sheriff’s Reintegration Team, and the Detentions Administration reviewed existing resources, and statistical information, and analyzed the target population’s transportation needs.
The analysis identified that the lack of public transportation in and out of Castle Rock impacts those being released from the County jail. Some inmates have complex transportation needs. Some require transportation to sober living homes. Many are required to check in with Community Justice Services, contact their probation officer, receive resources from Douglas County Human Services, or obtain required medication.
The Reintegration Deputy can address these complex transportation needs as part of their duties. The Deputy is also responsible for Reintegration check-ins, post-release in the community, and Specialty Courts.
The Deputy will work closely with the Reintegration Team to complete re-entry case management including:
