Don’t let your next outing be ruined by one simple mistake

Leaving valuables in your vehicle leaves you vulnerable to opportunistic thieves

Imagine returning to your vehicle after a relaxing hike or your weekly shopping trip to discover a smashed window and stolen personal items.

Douglas County is one of the safest places in the state, but a nightmare scenario that could have you scrambling to fix your car, cancel bank cards and chase down lost identification is possible no matter where you live. Thieves are always on the move looking for crimes of opportunity.  They target popular destinations such as parks, trailheads or other parking lots where you’re likely to be away from your vehicle for an extended period of time.

According to the Douglas County Sheriff’s Office, it’s important that you be aware of the risk and take a few simple steps, to ensure you don’t become a victim.

Open garages are also extremely popular targets for thieves. Whether you are doing yard work out back, relaxing in the house or just headed out for a quick errand, make sure you don’t leave your garage open to tempt a thief.
