While no one looks forward to needing the services of the Douglas County Coroner’s Office when you do you want to be certain they are operating at the highest standards in the profession.

As part of their dedication to providing exceptional and professional medicolegal investigation in Douglas County, the Coroner’s Office recently sought and received accreditation of the department by the International Association of Coroners and Medical Examiners (IACME). The department was assessed based on an in-depth review of 288 administrative, forensic, investigative and facility practices and standards as well as a site visit and case file review.

According to IACME, “When an agency elects to subject themselves to this process it clearly indicates their desire to stand to peer review and demonstrates to the public and stakeholders a strong desire to provide excellence in service provision.”

By bestowing this honor, the IACME recognizes the Douglas County Coroner’s Office as a great representative of their expectations of a coroner’s office – one of only 32 in the country to be distinguished in this way.

“It is the statutory responsibility of our office to take a lead role in death investigations and establish a cause and manner of death, identify the deceased and notify the family, and I am pleased to have received recognition of our office’s commitment to the deceased and our community with this five-year accreditation from IACME,” said Douglas County Coroner, Jill Romann.

“The successful outcome of the accreditation process was possible thanks to the tireless work and professionalism of the Chief Deputy Coroner, Nick Lobello, our Manager of Coroner Administration, Lauren Stockton as well as the support of our team of Medicolegal Death Investigators,” continued Coroner Romann.

To receive this honor, the Coroner’s office met 100% of the IACME required standards and 99% of all standards. Following their site visit, the association auditors noted that the Coroner’s Office works to provide the highest level of service through a dedicated team of well-trained investigators who provide timely and compassionate investigations of deaths occurring in their jurisdiction.

The Douglas County Coroner’s Office is an impartial, independent agency with a mission to provide the citizens of Douglas County, medical professionals, and members of the justice system accurate, scientific, and unbiased medical-based determinations of cause and manner of death.
