Disaster relief in Douglas County now closer to home

Board of Douglas County Commissioners commits $200,000 in matching funds

From wildfires to pandemics – we all know Douglas County is not immune to catastrophic events. The good news is that now there’s a new emergency relief fund available with resources and relief focused only on Douglas County.

The Douglas County Community Foundation (DCCF) – through the generosity of financial contributors – has created the Community Emergency Relief Fund. This fund directly assists emergency response-focused nonprofit organizations and first responders in Douglas County during catastrophic events affecting our residents and ensures that emergency relief funds can be quickly accessed and distributed to those most impacted in Douglas County.

In support of the fund, at their Aug. 8 Business Meeting, the Board of Douglas County Commissioners approved $200,000 in Community Emergency Relief matching funds for donations received at the upcoming Douglas County Community Foundation’s Heroes Gala Thursday, Sept. 21.

All money raised during the event will receive a matching donation from the fund up to $200,000. All donations will go directly to the DCCF Community Emergency Relief Fund.

Funding for Douglas County’s match was obtained from the interest earned on Douglas County’s share of federal American Rescue Plan Act (ARPA) funding.

Watch this video as Douglas County Commissioner Abe Laydon discusses goals for the Community Emergency Relief Fund and what you can do to be a part of this mission.
