Douglas County buildings glow green Nov. 6 – Nov. 12 to honor and support our Veterans

Did you know Douglas County is home to more than 20,000 Veterans? To honor the service and sacrifice of these men and women in advance of Veterans Day, Douglas County is taking part in Operation Green Light for Veterans, Nov. 6 – Nov. 12.
Led by the National Association of Counties (NACo), Operation Green Light is an opportunity for communities to recognize the sacrifices made by our veterans and their families by illuminating public buildings in green from Nov. 6 – Nov. 12. The initiative also raises awareness around the unique challenges faced by many Veterans and the resources available at the county, state and federal levels to assist Veterans and their families.
As part of Operation Green Light, Douglas County will illuminate three buildings in Castle Rock – the Philip. S Miller Building, Wilcox Street Building, and the Justice Center.
In addition to lighting county buildings, residents, businesses and other organizations are encouraged to participate by simply changing one light bulb in their home to a green bulb. This can be an exterior light that neighbors and passersby see or an interior light that sparks a conversation with family and friends. By shining a green light, we let our Veterans know that they are seen, appreciated, and supported.
“As a Board, we honor the service and sacrifice of our nation’s heroes,” said Commissioner George Teal. “We hope this effort both illuminates the immense pride we feel for our Veterans and ignites the type of support they deserve. Please join us in this small token of appreciation for those who secure our freedoms throughout the year.”
Douglas County is dedicated to the service and support of Veterans and their family members through the Veterans Service Office.
