Mental Health First Aid Training

Support the Mental Health of your community

Mental Wellness is more than just the absence of depression or other diseases – it is community, connection, movement, and conversation. If you or someone you know is feeling stressed, lonely, unmotivated, distracted, restless, etc., we have a tool that can help.

We have partnered with the Douglas County Mental Health Initiative to host free Mental Health First Aid (MHFA) training throughout the year.

MHFA is an evidence-based course that teaches not only the signs, symptoms, and risk factors of mental common health conditions and substance use risk factors but also the skills to intervene and direct individuals to support and care, ideally before requiring more significant mental and/or behavioral health intervention.

The full-day course is intended for the general public, with the idea that neighbors can support neighbors.

Forty-five US-based peer-reviewed studies published over the past 10 years show major findings that individuals trained in the program have:

Ask yourself if this training is for you.

Based on the community health assessment in Douglas County, four populations, and their support networks, could benefit most from the MHFA training:

If you are part of any of these populations or are part of their support network (personally or professionally), we invite you to participate so that you are equipped to recognize and understand common mental health needs and help if needed. Specialized training will be available for older adults, young adults, and rural communities. General Adult MHFA will be available too and is recommended for the general public. While these trainings are designed for each target population, they are universal enough that attending any of them would give you the tools needed for most situations. The general adult MHFA is a great option if you’re not sure where to start.
