The Board of Douglas County Commissioners has selected 19 non-profit programs to share $135,000 in grant funds from the County’s 2024 portion of the Philip S. Miller Trust.
Together, these vital programs cast a wide safety net throughout the County by delivering programs and services such as suicide prevention, therapy, medical assistance, mental health, emergency financial assistance and support for seniors and school-age children.
Recipients of these awards enhance the quality of life for vulnerable and at-risk members of our community, and many provide services not available through other means.
“The Douglas County Community Foundation’s incredible contributions to our community has grown exponentially each year,” said Douglas County Commissioner Abe Laydon. “We are honored to have the opportunity to partner with you to elevate our Community Emergency Relief Fund (CERF) and ensure that those in our community who face a crisis have the resources they need.”
Miller grant recipients for 2024 include Backpack Society, Cherry Hills Community Church, Bridge of Hope, Help & Hope Center, Integrated Family Community Services, Crisis Center, Parker Task Force for Human Services, Manna Resource Center, St. Vincent De Paul Ave Maria Center, Douglas County Christian Counseling, Southeast Counseling Center, The Happy Crew, Castle Country Assisted Living, Step Seven Ministries and VFW Post 4266. Those organizations supporting older adult services include Aging Resources of Douglas County, Castle Rock Senior Activity Center, Highlands Ranch Senior Center and Parker Senior Center.
Douglas County partners with the Douglas County Community Foundation (DCCF) to manage its annual share of the Philip S. Miller grant endowment. The Board of Douglas County Commissioners is accountable for the funds by evaluating funding recommendations and the final decision for distribution, and DCCF administers the grant program.
“We are grateful to the Board of County Commissioners for entrusting us to be good stewards of their financial gifts to worthy and vetted Douglas County nonprofits,” said Tera Radloff, Chair of DCCF. “These funds are critical in helping our nonprofit partners continue to make significant impacts in our community and support those in need.”
These awards continue the legacy of philanthropy established by Philip S. Miller and his wife Jessie, who dedicated so much of their lives to helping others in Douglas County and continue to do so through this generous and thoughtful gift.
