Upcoming West Frontage Road and nighttime I-25 closures for Crystal Valley interchange bridge

Information courtesy of the Town of Castle Rock:

The Crystal Valley interchange project will reach a major milestone in late February, with the placement of new bridge structures over Interstate 25, West Frontage Road and BNSF Railway tracks, forming the new Crystal Valley Parkway bridge to connect the east and west sides of the interstate.

Overhead bridge structures will be safely installed in phases as they are set on newly constructed foundations on either side of I-25.

The first phase will require a daily closure of West Frontage Road from Monday, Feb. 17, through Thursday, Feb. 20. Phase two will involve nighttime closures on I-25 from Sunday, Feb. 23, through Wednesday, Feb. 26.

A total of 53 bridge girders of varying lengths and weights will be installed during these closures. The largest girder measures 130 feet, about the width of a football field, and weighs 80,000 pounds, equivalent to three school buses. Two large cranes, delivered on 10 semi-trucks and assembled on-site, will work in tandem to lift the girders.

Closure details:
Beginning Monday, Feb. 17, through Thursday, Feb. 20, daily from 8:30 a.m. to 5 p.m., a closure on West Frontage Road will be in place:

West Frontage Road will be closed south of Plum Creek Parkway, just past the I-25 on-ramp. Yucca Hills Road will be open to local traffic only. As a detour, Twin Oaks residents will use the Peak View Drive entrance via Wolfensberger Road.

On the nights of Sunday, Feb. 23, and Monday, Feb. 24, the following I-25 closures will be in effect:

From 10:30 p.m. to 5:30 a.m. the following morning: Southbound I-25 will be fully closed from Exit 181 (Plum Creek Parkway) to Exit 174 (Tomah Road). Southbound I-25 traffic will be detoured onto East Frontage Road.

To avoid this closure, I-25 traffic should use Colorado State Highway 83.

From 9 p.m. until 5 a.m. the following morning: Crystal Valley Parkway will be fully closed to and from East Frontage Road. Traffic will detour north onto Plum Creek Boulevard to access East Frontage Road.

From 8 p.m. until 5 a.m. the following morning: Northbound I-25 will be reduced to a single lane of traffic between Exit 174 (Tomah Road) and Exit 181 (Plum Creek Parkway). West Frontage Road will be fully closed at Plum Creek Parkway.

Twin Oaks residents will use the Peak View Drive entrance via Wolfensberger Road.

The lane reduction on East Frontage Road will not be in place during the I-25 nighttime closure.
