Twice a year, we see Douglas County’s commitment to public service in action at “DougNad,” a semi-annual event that brings neighbors together with the common goal of building community through volunteering.
On Friday, April 25, you’re invited to plant trees at Bayou Gulch Regional Park, an undeniably perfect way to celebrate Arbor Day and National Volunteer Month. This spring, we are partnering with Douglas County School District to inspire a sense of community and celebrate the value we place on keeping our public spaces clean, safe and enjoyable for all.
“DougNad” is modeled after the Scandinavian tradition of Dugnad where citizens meet up with family, friends, and neighbors for coffee and pastries and then disperse into the community to participate in volunteer work such as planting trees or cleaning parks.
Sound fun? You’re invited! Whether you’re retired, a student looking for volunteer hours, or a family of four, we would love to have you join us from 9 a.m. to noon on Friday, April 25. We’ll start by enjoying donuts and coffee and handing out swag before we get to work. Register for this April’s “DougNad” event today!
“Dougnad (based on the treasured Scandinavian tradition ‘Dugnad’) is an opportunity to gather for coffee and donuts with your family, neighbors, and friends, to socialize then disperse into the community to beautify it by cleaning and planting trees,” said Commissioner Abe Laydon. “Douglas County is our special home. Please join us and help encourage future generations in your care that serving our community and each other is just who we are. Little ones welcome!”
