By order of Sheriff Darren Weekly, Stage 1 Fire Restrictions are in place for unincorporated areas of Douglas County.  Ordinance No. O-012-004 restricts open fires, open burning, and the use of fireworks in the unincorporated areas of Douglas County.

In observance of the New Year, all Douglas County offices will be closed for on Thursday, Jan. 1, 2026. Offices will reopen at 8 a.m. on Friday, Jan. 2, for normal business. Many County services are available 24/7 by visiting online services.

Douglas County Hall of Fame

From neighbors who lend a hand without being asked, to students pushing boundaries in the classroom and on the field to local businesses quietly giving back, Douglas County is filled with people making a difference. The Douglas County Hall of Fame celebrates individuals of all ages who go above and beyond to strengthen our community. Nominees selected by the Board of County Commissioners may be honored with a letter of recognition, at a public meeting, featured here on this page and/or presented with a ceremonial challenge coin, a timeless symbol of exceptional service and achievement.

The Douglas County Board of Commissioners is proud to honor individuals whose accomplishments reflect the excellence, dedication and spirit of Douglas County. This recognition may highlight acts of service, leadership in local organizations or outstanding contributions to public life, but it also extends to personal triumphs such as earning state or national honors, winning academic or athletic competitions or making a positive difference through creativity, innovation or perseverance.

    • Chief Deputy DA Eva Wilson was honored at the Dec. 11, 2025, State of the County event. Wilson was honored for more than 40 years of service as a prosecutor.

  • Nov. 18: Retired U.S. Army Lieutenant Mark Maloney
    • Mark, a Vietnam Veteran and former marathon runner, has long been an advocate for Douglas County’s open spaces and trails and for helping other accident victims and Veterans recover from injuries, especially since an accident in 2020 left him paralyzed.
    • Commissioners inducted him into the Douglas County Hall of Fame for his service (past and present) to our country and community.

  • Oct. 28: Castle Pines Golf Club
    • Recognized for their success in hosting the 2024 BMW Championship. Some of the tournament’s accomplishments include:
      • More than 138,000 spectators in attendance, the championship delivered a powerful economic boost to our local community.
      • The PGA TOUR named the BMW Championship its “Tournament of the Year” for an unprecedented sixth time, a distinction no other event in TOUR history has achieved.
      • The event raised a record-setting $10.2 million for the Evans Scholars Foundation, funding full college scholarships for youth caddies across the country — the largest single-year contribution in the tournament’s history.

The Board of Commissioners launched this initiative by honoring Howard Berger – a WWII Veteran, lifelong public servant and centenarian who says his proudest moments are those in which he helped fellow soldiers overseas. Mr. Berger was presented with a Douglas County Challenge Coin and became the first distinguished honoree in the Douglas County Hall of Fame on March 11, 2025.
