Toby Damisch was elected Douglas County Assessor in November 2022 and began serving his first term as Douglas County Assessor in January 2023.
Toby was born and raised in Eastern Iowa, as the second of four sons. He attended parochial school in elementary and junior high and graduated from Regis Jesuit High School in Cedar Rapids. He enrolled in college at Iowa State University (ISU) in Ames and graduated with a B.S. in Community and Regional Planning with a minor in Economics. Toby worked his way through college at local restaurants, eventually taking on management jobs, and worked for the City of Ames performing property appraisal work over the summer, his first experience with both public service and real estate.
After graduation, Toby was hired at a software technology firm that produced digital maps for business and government clients. Through these experiences, he came to understand the operations, tendencies, successes and failures of local government and made the move to Colorado in 1997. After interviewing at real estate firms, construction companies, and technology businesses, as well as some local governments. Toby accepted a job with the Douglas County Assessor’s Office.
In his 24 years of service to Douglas County, Toby has been promoted six times, by four different Assessors, working in all facets of real estate appraisal, title, GIS, data analysis, statistics, reporting, management, technology, and customer service. During his tenure with the Assessor’s office, the Office has developed a reputation for using technology to better serve the citizens, manage the cost of government, increase online services, and greatly improve the accuracy and fairness of property valuations.
Toby and his wife, Marcie have been married for 18 years and have a son, William. Toby and his family enjoy traveling, dogs, the outdoors, skiing and other mountain activities, cooking, and music.
