Veterans are not just a part of our history — in Douglas County, they are our neighbors, colleagues, and friends, contributing to the strength, character, and future of our community.
That’s why Douglas County Commissioner George Teal, the Douglas County Veterans Service Office, and the leadership of other Veteran-focused organizations in the County, including Veterans of Foreign Wars and Douglas County Veterans Monument Foundation, created the new Heroes Hall Foundation, dedicated to building the Douglas County Heroes Hall.
At its Jan. 14 Business Meeting, the Board of Douglas County Commissioners approved a $400,000 contract to DLH Architecture for their design services on the new Heroes Hall.
“Giving the Veterans in our community a voice will always be among my top priorities,” said Commissioner George Teal, who served in the United States Army and is a Veteran of Operation Desert Storm and Operation Pacific Haven. “My colleagues and I hope that by contributing County funds to this project, we will inspire other community organizations to contribute as well.”
The Heroes Hall will be a gathering place for our local Veterans to meet and enjoy the comradery they once experienced on active duty. It consolidates the support functions of the founding organizations, which can help Veterans receive additional assistance and support. Furthermore, it allows Veterans to pursue community engagement and advocate for Veteran causes. The Heroes Hall building will include event space and a conference center in a 14,000-square-foot building with a 7,000-square-foot basement.
The Heroes Hall is estimated to cost $15 million to build and is primarily funded through private donations. If you wish to donate, please visit the Heroes Hall webpage to learn more.
