Douglas County Health Department shares recall information from FDA
Posted on December 12, 2023 2023Health and Human ServicesNews and Events
The FDA is investigating elevated lead levels in some cinnamon-applesauce pouches. The Douglas County Health Department has visited retailers within the County to ensure products are no longer stocked but urges you to check your pantry.
Please dispose of any:
WanaBana is sold nationally through multiple retailers including Amazon, Dollar Tree, and other online outlets. Schnucks products are only available at Schnucks and Eatwell Markets grocery stores, and Weis-brand pouches are only sold at Weis grocery stores, both located outside of Colorado.
DCHD investigates reports of elevated lead levels. To date, none of their investigations have been associated with this recall.
The recalled products are associated with childhood lead poisoning cases across the country, including two potential cases in Colorado. People who have these products at home should discard them. Children who have eaten the products recently should get a blood lead test. Most children have no obvious immediate symptoms. Parents and caretakers should consult a healthcare provider if they suspect a child may have been exposed to lead.
Short-term exposure to lead could result in the following symptoms: headache; abdominal pain/colic; vomiting; and anemia.
