Commissioner Kevin Van Winkle appointed to fill vacancy on Douglas County Board of Health

Your Douglas County Board of Health has a new voice through the appointment of Commissioner Kevin Van Winkle to fill a recent vacancy.  The Board of County Commissioners approved the appointment through a resolution at their Tuesday, Dec. 17 Business Meeting.

Commissioner Van Winkle was elected in November but appointed and took the oath of office a month early, on Dec. 17, 2024, to fill the vacancy left by the immediate resignation of his District III predecessor.

While creating the Health Department in 2021, Commissioners passed a resolution that two Commissioners would sit on the Board of Health alongside five county residents. Commissioner Van Winkle joins Commissioner George Teal on the Board of Health.

While serving as a Colorado State Senator, Van Winkle was one of the early advocates for Douglas County leaving Tri-County and forming its own health department. In March 2020, he and other Republican state lawmakers sent a letter to the Board of County Commissioners, urging them to leave Tri-County.

“I appreciate the appointment,” said Van Winkle. “I look forward to serving the people of Douglas County.”
