Risk Management and Claims

Risk Transfer Program

The defense of Douglas County Government is controlled by the operation of the Colorado Governmental Immunity Act (CGIA) (CRS 24-10-101 et. seq.) Douglas County has a self-insured risk transfer program to protect the Board of County Commissioners, Elected and Appointed Officials and employees from actual or alleged negligent acts and omissions while acting in the performance of duties on behalf of Douglas County.

Under the Colorado False Claims Act (C.R.S. §24-31-1201, et al.), Douglas County may report any false or fraudulent claim, or misrepresentation related to a request for payment to the Colorado Attorney General and shall cooperate with any investigation or otherwise seek a civil remedy, which may result in civil damages and a civil penalty not less than $11,000 and not more than $23,000 per violation.
