Eleven residents of Douglas County were appointed on August 10 to the newly-created ad hoc Douglas County Public Health Advisory Committee. Members will provide the perspective of County residents as the County explores the future delivery of public health services in Douglas County currently provided to the County through the Tri-County District Health Department.
The 11 Committee appointees are:
Mary Beth Vasco – Highlands Ranch | Jennifer Green – Castle Rock |
Kelsey Hall – Highlands Ranch | Katie Coleman – Castle Rock |
Kimberly Eloe – Highlands Ranch | Katheryn Willie – Castle Rock |
Donald Parrot – Parker | Kevin Bracken – Castle Rock |
Mark Hampton – Parker | Luke Niforatos – Lone Tree |
Doug Benevento – Littleton |
Committee appointees will provide guidance and insights, for the Douglas County Community Health Assessment; and the Public Health Improvement Plan, and assist in evaluating the best method for delivery of public health services in Douglas County. The Committee will also provide input to the Board on findings or recommendations of the County’s Public Health Working Group and the County’s consultants, as well as a personal perspective based on knowledge and expertise.
The 11 members were appointed and the Committee to which they were appointed was established by resolution at the Board of County Commissioner Business Meeting on August 10, 2021. The members are appointed for a minimum term ending Jan. 31, 2022, and a maximum term ending July 31, 2022, as determined by the Board of Douglas County Commissioners.
Douglas County joined the Tri-County District Health Department in 1966 when the County’s population was nearly 8,000, compared with today’s population of nearly 380,000. In February 2009, pursuant to the Colorado Public Health Act of 2008, Douglas County passed a resolution re-establishing Tri-County Health Department as the Public Health Agency of Douglas County.
Douglas County has made a commitment to remain part of the Tri-County District Public Health Department through December 31, 2022. In the interim, the County is exploring options and opportunities related to the delivery of public health services for the County’s residents. Options include the establishment of a single-county health department that provides or purchases services. The options and opportunities are being developed to provide information and data to the Board of County Commissioners to guide their decisions on how they wish to ensure that public health services are provided for County residents in accordance with the Colorado Public Health Act of 2008, C.R.S. 25-1-501 et seq.
