Did you know that since 1994, a voter-approved 0.17% sales and use tax has helped preserve your parks, trails, historic resources and open spaces in Douglas County? Renewed by voters in 2022, this dedicated sales tax is expected to generate $350 million over 15 years. In 2024, you told us how to invest that money, and your Board of Douglas County Commissioners has an update.
On Monday, April 14, join a meet and greet followed by a Live Town Hall to learn more about the new regional sports complex, called Zebulon, and other area parks projects being developed in response to your feedback in 2024. You can ask questions and connect with your Board of County Commissioners.

In 2024, the County engaged citizens with a survey. Based on the survey results, the Board of Douglas County Commissioners has identified several priorities, including the construction of Zebulon, a new regional sports complex.
“A vision emerged in 2024 following a transparent and accountable public participation process, including live town halls, recommendations from citizen-led parks and open space volunteer boards, as well as a robust public survey with historic levels of participation,” said Commissioner Abe Laydon. “Named after one of our most significant western adventurers, Zebulon Pike, Zebulon and its adjacent open spaces are the answer to all citizens who collectively said they wanted an iconic, one-of-a-kind park and sports village with botanic gardens, embedded artwork which creates a sense of place, indoor and outdoor sports recreation facilities, and water amenities that can’t be found anywhere.”
This Live Town Hall is your chance to engage with the Board about how they are responding to your feedback on the utilization of the Parks, Trails, Historic Resources and Open Space Fund.
