Douglas County Health Department’s Recreational Water Program ensures pools, hot tubs, and splash pads are clean, healthy, and safe. Inspectors make sure that pool filtration systems are in good repair. They also check chemical levels to ensure they keep illnesses from spreading through the pool. Finally, they check to make sure that chemicals are stored safely.
DCHD staff inspect public pools, spas, and splash pads. Private swimming pools, such as backyard pools, are not regulated by the health department. Natural swimming areas are regulated by the Colorado Department of Public Health and Environment (CDPHE). Inspectors also follow up on pool complaints.
