Did you know that you may now obtain certified birth and death certificates in person from our Health Department offices in downtown Castle Rock? No appointment necessary. For births and deaths that occurred in any county in Colorado, get vital records in person, online, by email, and by mail. Certified birth and death certificates are legal documents printed on forgery-resistant safety paper with watermarks, raised engraving, background security patterns, and a unique certificate identification number. Note that current processing time for online orders is currently 5 business days. For questions, please contact us at 720-643-2480 or [email protected].

Please note: due to a change in Colorado state regulation, beginning October 15, 2024, grandparents will no longer be eligible to order birth certificates for grandchildren based on relationship. Grandparents that provide a certified court order of guardianship or other legal/tangible interest documents are still eligible to obtain the birth certificate of their grandchild.

Certified Birth Certificates & Fees

Fees are $20 for the first copy and $13 for each additional copy of the same certificate if ordered at the same time. A small convenience fee applies to debit and credit card payments.

Expedited USPS shipping (two-day) is available for fax/mail orders for an additional $20.

How to Obtain Records

In-person/Same-day service
Douglas County Health Department Vital Records Office is located at 410 S. Wilcox St. in Castle Rock (use the main entrance facing Wilcox Street). You may fill out the paperwork, pay, and walk away with copies. No appointment is necessary.

Please note that the building is open for in-person vital records services Monday through Friday, from 8:30 a.m. to 4:30 p.m. (excluding holidays).

Who Can Obtain a Birth or Death Certificate

Due to a change in Colorado state regulation, beginning October 15, 2024, grandparents will no longer be eligible to order birth certificates for grandchildren based on relationship. Grandparents that provide a certified court order of guardianship or other legal/tangible interest documents are still eligible to obtain the birth certificate of their grandchild.

Information Required

  • The person’s full name as it appears on the record
  • Date and place of birth or death
  • Parents’ names along with mother’s full maiden name
  • The purpose of the copy
  • Applicant’s relationship to the person on the certificate
  • Applicant’s signature
  • Payment
    • Cash, check and money orders have no convenience fees.
    • Credit cards and debit cards are charged a small convenience fee: $0.44 added to $20 fee, $0.72 added to $33 fee, $1.58 added to $72 fee, etc.
  • Photocopy of the requestor’s valid identification

Other Vital Records

The Douglas County Health Department can only issue birth and death certificates.

For marriage and civil union licenses, visit the Douglas County Clerk and Recorder Marriage/Civil Union License webpage. Scroll down to the section “We need a copy of our marriage/civil union license application – how do we get one?”

Marriage/Civil Union License Applications are held confidential under Colorado Law. Parties to the marriage/union or immediate family members may request copies or certified copies of the license. Parties to the marriage/union will be required to furnish photo ID. Immediate family members will be required to provide a photo ID along with proof of relationship. For circumstances requiring documentation of the marriage, a certified copy of the license or application may be obtained for $1.25 per copy. Checks should be made payable to Douglas County Clerk. Shipping and handling charges will apply:

  • $1 for 1-6 pages
  • $4 for 7-61 pages
  • $7 for 62 or more pages

To avoid paying a shipping and handling charge, include a self-addressed stamped envelope with your copy request. Please make sure the envelope is large enough for the number of copies requested.
