Every year, your Board of Douglas County Commissioners reports back to you on annual accomplishments achieved with and through others during the State of the County event. This year, the theme was “Celebrating Partnerships. Elevating Economic Vitality.”
Whether it’s investing in public safety resources, improving our transportation network, providing services for our most vulnerable, or ensuring Douglas County’s strong water future – partnerships across Douglas County have resulted in incredible achievements that form the foundation for economic prosperity.
The State of Douglas County event, held on Thursday, Dec. 12, highlights these shared achievements in Douglas County. Watch the 2024 State of the County event on our YouTube channel.
“This really is the perfect time of year to look back and to look forward with gratitude, and to celebrate the year that was and all that was accomplished in service to Douglas County residents and our business community,” said Commissioner George Teal. “This year, we evaluated how the County’s core priority investments aligned with what the business community valued most. Douglas County’s significant investments in public safety, transportation, human and human services, County services, and natural resources send the message that Douglas County is not only open for business, but we also know what our residents and our business community value most.”
“It’s been an incredible year with record-setting accomplishments that have kept Douglas County healthy, wealthy and wise,” said Commissioner Abe Laydon. “As a result of strategic initiatives and with your support, Douglas County is safer than ever with the highest number of school resources officers in the state, and our numbers for homeless, panhandling and encampments are now at functional zero.”
“The state of Douglas County is safe, fiscally strong, healthy and innovative,” said Commissioner-Elect Kevin Van Winkle, who was introduced Thursday night and participated in the event. “We acknowledge, recognize and celebrate the citizens and taxpayers throughout Douglas County who count on us to invest their hard-earned dollars in ways that protect and serve them every day.”
This year, the County partnered with the new Douglas County Economic Development Corporation and Bisnow to add an economic development perspective to the importance of these foundational priorities.
“The 2024 State of Douglas County was a wonderful opportunity to reflect on the incredible achievements of the past year,” said Ellie Reynolds, CEO of the Douglas County Economic Development Corporation. “Partnering with Bisnow and Douglas County allowed us to bring the community together to celebrate the progress we’ve made and the goals we’ve accomplished. It was inspiring to share this evening with so many leaders and organizations who continue to shape the future of our region.”
