Would you recognize human trafficking in your own community?
Plan to attend a Live Town Hall from 6:30 to 7:30 p.m. Thursday, Aug. 17. The Board of Douglas County Commissioners will host a panel of experts who can answer your questions. You can join online, by phone or in person at the Philip S. Miller Building, 100 Third St. in Castle Rock.
The Commissioners will host Douglas County Sheriff Darren Weekly; Jacob Kremin, a prosecutor for the 18th Judicial District; Jenelle Goodrich, founder of From Silenced to Saved; and Kelly Dore, a survivor and executive director of Sierra Cares Foundation, based in Sierra Leone. They’ll answer your questions about what to look for, what to do if you suspect trafficking and what your local agencies are doing prevent human trafficking while arresting and prosecuting traffickers.

“Our county, in partnership with the District Attorney’s Office and the Sheriff’s Office, is engaging in a very robust discussion around this issue. We want you to join us,” said Commissioner Abe Laydon, Board Chair. “It’s a reminder for all of us to wake up, be cognizant and protect young people from the real criminal threats to their well-being.”
Live Town Halls are an opportunity to learn about a topic and ask questions of a panel. The panel will take questions from attendees in the live audience, on the phone and online.
