The Douglas County Health Department has been committed to providing continuity of public health services for county residents through a phased approach. Services began transitioning June 1, 2022, and the final transition of services was effective January 1, 2023.

Report animal bites and food-borne illness
Infectious/contagious diseases can be spread in a variety of ways: from person to person, through contact with animals, or through eating contaminated food and water. This includes serious diseases such as E. coli, Salmonella, hepatitis A, meningitis, and whooping cough/pertussis
Report an Illness

Communicable disease control involves the investigation and mitigation of infectious diseases within the community. These diseases can be spread in a variety of ways: from person to person, through contact with animals, or through eating contaminated food and water. This includes serious diseases such as E. coli, Salmonella, and hepatitis A. Certain infectious diseases are required by law to be reported.
Schools and Childcare
Suspected outbreaks of any disease in any setting must be reported to public health immediately.
The Douglas County Health Department’s Emergency Preparedness and Response Division (EPR) works with many local, regional, and state partners to plan and prepare for public health emergencies. EPR staff focus on planning, training, and exercising the response to public health emergencies like pandemics, bioterrorism events, and natural disasters.
Environmental Health programs focus on preventing communicable diseases and environmental conditions that could be harmful to your health through inspections and regulations.
Certified birth and death certificates are available from the Douglas County Health Department. These are legal documents printed on forgery-resistant safety paper with watermarks, raised engraving, background security patterns, and a unique certificate identification number.
