Ditch and Culvert Maintenance of Gravel Roads

Douglas County maintains all ditches in County-owned right-of-way, and all culverts and drainage structures underneath County roads. Well-maintained ditches play a significant role in proper drainage and prevent roads from washing out.

Routine ditch maintenance includes:

  • Routine inspections
  • Erosion control inspections
  • Reshaping and opening ditch lines adjacent to the shoulder
  • Removal of sediment and debris
  • Mowing overgrown vegetation
  • Roadside spraying to treat and prevent invasive weeds infestation

Culvert maintenance includes:

  • Routine inspections on culverts located underneath County roads
  • Removal of sediment and debris
  • Vac-truck operations for large blockage

To request grading, please submit a request using the Report a Problem form and select “Gravel Road Maintenance”.
