Did you know that among your neighbors in Douglas County, about 27,000 (7.7%) are Veterans? To honor the service and sacrifice of these men and women in advance of Veterans Day, Douglas County is taking part in Operation Green Light for Veterans, Monday, Nov. 4 – Monday, Nov. 11.
Led by the National Association of Counties (NACo), Operation Green Light is an opportunity for communities to recognize the sacrifices made by our Veterans and their families by illuminating public buildings in green for one week. The initiative also raises awareness around the unique challenges faced by many Veterans and the resources available at the county, state and federal levels to assist Veterans and their families.
As part of Operation Green Light, Douglas County will illuminate three buildings in Castle Rock – the Philip. S Miller Building, Wilcox Street Building, and the Justice Center.
In addition to lighting county buildings, residents, businesses and other organizations are encouraged to participate by simply changing one light bulb in their home to a green bulb. This can be an exterior light that neighbors and passersby see or an interior light that sparks a conversation with family and friends. By shining a green light, we let our Veterans know that they are seen, appreciated, and supported.
“Operation Green Light is a small way to show appreciation, a small way to show recognition that can sometimes feel like it’s lacking for our Veterans,” said Commissioner George Teal. “Please join us in showing appreciation.”
Douglas County is dedicated to the service and support of Veterans and their family members through the Veterans Service Office.
