ARPA Authorized Expenditures for Wildfire Suppression and Mitigation

Helitack Team

Douglas County Office of Emergency Management proposes additional staffing devoted to the County’s Helitack Program. Douglas County is considering the application of ARPA funds for this purpose.

Expansion of the Wildfire Mitigation Defensible Space Program

The Douglas County Wildfire Initiative Staff proposes the use of ARPA funding for the expansion of the County’s wildfire mitigation defensible space program to include a chipping program for fuel reduction in the Wildland Urban Interface area.

Aerial Support for Wildfires

To ensure the County’s air support readiness during wildfire season, each year the Board of Douglas County Commissioners commits more than $1.8 million to the County’s wildland fire aerial firefighting contracts, ensuring air support in Douglas County is available at a moment’s notice in the event of a wildfire.

Douglas County’s Wildfire Mitigation map is interactive. Just enter your address and see the risk of wildfire at and near your property including basic information about your wildfire management district.

Protect Your Home

Take action to prepare your home and property for wildfire. Learn how you can protect your home, property and forest and be Firewise, and if you are eligible for the Wildfire Mitigation Tax Credit.

Community Wildfire Protection Plan (CWPP)

The plan will serve as an “umbrella” document to provide background information for finer-scale communities within Douglas County (i.e. subdivisions, or homeowners associations) who wish to develop a specific Community Wildfire Protection Plan for their area of interest.
