If you walk or bike regionally, we have good news.
You will soon be using the highly anticipated C-470 Trail and High Line Canal Trail underpasses beneath US 85, a major milestone in Douglas County’s ongoing efforts to improve safety and mobility for pedestrians and cyclists along this important corridor.
The newly completed underpasses provide a safer, more direct route, eliminating the need to interact with motorists to cross US 85. The new connection also enhances connectivity between surrounding neighborhoods, local trail connections and Chatfield State Park.
Here’s when they are expected to open:
- The new below-grade crossing for the C-470 Trail at US 85 will open on the morning of Saturday, April 12.
- The new High Line Canal Trail will open on the morning of Saturday, April 26.
Trails will reopen through access below US 85 only, there will be no access to/from US 85 until later this year.
Come celebrate with us!
Douglas County will host a ribbon-cutting ceremony at 11 a.m. on Wednesday, April 16, on the C-470 Trail just east of the new US 85 underpass.
Crews will continue work on the remaining multimodal improvements, including a new shared-use path on the east side of US 85 and a new pedestrian link from the Wolhurst Senior Community to the C-470 Trail. The entire widening project is set to be completed later this year.
Project Overview
In addition to the multi-modal improvements, including bus stop enhancements, this project reconstructed three intersections, widened US 85 from four to six lanes and replaced and widened the bridge that carries US 85 over C-470.
The newly widened roadway and reconstructed interchanges will alleviate traffic and create safer travel as part of the US 85 Widening Project and corridor improvements being made from Highlands Ranch Parkway to north of C-470 by Douglas County.
