From regional transportation to public health, did you know the roles of your County Commissioners extend far beyond the Commissioners Hearing Room? Each year, the crucial responsibility of Commissioners representing Douglas County on various Boards, governing and decision-making bodies helps to ensure your priorities are always considered in regional, state and national issues.

Here’s a look at the additional roles of your Commissioners in 2025:

Commissioner and Board Chair Abe Laydon serves with these organizations by way of Board appointment: Arapahoe County Public Airport Authority Board, Arapahoe/Douglas Workforce Investment Board, Centennial Airport Community Noise Roundtable, Community Services Block Grant Tripartite Board, Douglas County Community Foundation, Douglas County Youth Initiative Advisory Board, Douglas County Homeless Initiative, and the Metro Denver Economic Development Corporation. He previously served on the Colorado Office of Behavioral Health 9-8-8 Implementation Planning Committee. Read more about Commissioner Laydon on our website.

Commissioner George Teal serves with these organizations by way of Board appointment: Castle Rock Economic Development Council, Douglas County Board of Health, Aging Resources of Douglas County, Douglas County Older Adult Initiative Executive Committee, Cherry Creek Basin Water Quality Control Authority, Douglas County Emergency Telephone Service (9-1-1) Authority, Mile High Flood District and the Southern Shooting Partnership. Commissioner Kevin Van Winkle serves with these organizations by way of Board appointment: Douglas County Board of Health, Chatfield Basin Watershed Authority, Denver Regional Council of Governments (DRCOG), Developmental Pathways Board of Directors, Douglas County Housing Partnership, Community Services Block Grant Tripartite Board, Highline Canal Conservancy, Douglas County Sheriff’s Office Forfeiture Board, Unified Forensic Crime Lab, Denver South Economic Development Partnership Board of Directors, E-470 Public Highway Authority Board and Denver South I-25 Urban Corridor Transportation Management Authority. Commissioners Laydon, Teal and Van Winkle also serve together as the Board of Adjustment, Board of Human Services, Liquor Licensing Authority and visit Washington D.C. annually to address priorities and funding from the federal government.
