Do you know a Douglas County high schooler (grades 9-12) who is eager to be a generational leader and have a positive impact? Local teenagers are invited to have a voice in youth mental health policy at the 2023 Youth Congress.

At last year’s Youth Congress, high school participants identified mental health as their No. 1 priority, so this year’s event will focus solely on youth mental health education, solutions, and resources. The event will be from 9 a.m. to 3 p.m. Tuesday, Oct. 3, at the Colorado State Capitol in Denver.

Registration is open now through Monday, Sept. 25, for the Oct. 3 event. Lunch is provided, and bus transportation is available from DCSD Legacy Campus in Parker.

Youth Congress empowers teenagers from all walks of life to help solve teenage problems by finding creative solutions. During the event, students, legislators, and community leaders work together in the spirit of creating positive change. Participants work in small groups with community leaders and subject matter experts. At the end of the day, each group shares their ideas with the full group.

For more information, visit our webpage or contact Youth Services Program Manager, Marsha Alston at [email protected] or 303-814-5327.

Youth Congress is one of three cornerstones of the Douglas County Youth Initiative, which also offers the Douglas County Youth Awards and the WrapAround program.
