Description:
The distinctive octagonal bottle is similar to those shown in Illinois Glass Company catalog dating circa 1906. Similar bottles were illustrated in the 1909 Whitney Glass Works catalog.
These bottles were commonly used for condiments. A similar bottle is identified as an Olympia Pickle bottle, Mould No. 819 on page 93 of the Illinois Glass Company catalog.
These unusual 8—sided bottle has a wide, concave front and back panels with flat narrow side panels bound together by beveled corners.
The moderately wide mouthed bore on the outside of the glass measures 1.6 inches. The lip displays external thread markings which seated the cap. Below that a double ring is evident. The straight neck measures .88 of an inch, bordered by an additional smooth raised ridge. The shoulder is a concave slope, measuring .61 of an inch. The body measures 4.16 inches. The octagon base measures 2.53 inches across.
