In 1872, Lowell Chamberlain started the first Iowa drug company. In 1892, Chamberlain Medicine Co. was incorporated and achieved national distribution. In 1892 the name of the firm was changed from Chamberlain & Co. to Chamberlain Medicine Company.
In 1923 the Chamberlain's Almanac' advertised popular products such as Chamberlain's Cough Remedy, Chamberlain's Liniment and Chamberlain's Pain Balm.
In March 1930 the business was sold to William R. Warner Company of New York City. The medicinal plant was removed to St. Louis, Mo. The bottle most likely dates between 1923 and 1930 when the company was sold.
The bottle is aqua in color. All sides of the bottle are indented. The front panel reads; CHAMBERLAIN'S LINIMENT. One side panel reads; CHAMBERLAIN MEDICINE CO. The other side panel reads; DES MOINES, IA. U.S.A. The bottom is described as "beveled ideal". The neck from shoulder to top of lip measures 1.57 inches. The string rim to the sheared bore measures 0.80 inches. The bore measures 0.50. The bore was closed with a cork. The shoulders are curved. Total height of the bottle measures 5.75 inches.
